From a School Project to an Autonomous Student Team
Here you can read how we evolved from a school project called “Legal Desk” initiated by the Juridishe Hogeschool into an independent student team organized as a non-profit.

A School Project
The story of the Stichting Law & Innovation Tilburg (LIT) begins at the Juridische Hogeschool Tilburg. What started as an assignment for four students to write a business plan for The Gate to set up a legal support helpdesk, quickly grew into something much bigger. Without in-depth knowledge of the ecosystem of student teams or student startups at the Technical University Eindhoven, they took the plunge.
The result? A solid, practical framework. It proved there was a huge need for low-threshold legal advice for entrepreneurial students. This pioneering work laid the foundation for what would later become an integral part of the ecosystem.
2022 – 2025
Up-and-Running Legal Desk
The Legal Desk evolved from a concept into an active player in Eindhoven’s ecosystem. As part of The Gate, we were deeply involved in the world of tech startups and ambitious student teams. Each semester, we welcomed a new group of driven interns from the Juridische Hogeschool who immediately put theory into practice by offering practical advice.
We didn’t limit ourselves to individual advice; we took the lead in sharing knowledge by organizing workshops and leading sessions on the legal pitfalls of entrepreneurship. Here, we learned how to translate complex subject matter into the language of the innovator.

Transition to LIT
In January 2025, we took our biggest step yet: the transition to the independent Stichting Law & Innovation Tilburg (LIT). What began in Eindhoven, we have expanded to Tilburg, enabling us to now serve key areas of innovation in Brabant.
Today, LIT is a fully-fledged student team with a professional board, a core group of enthusiastic volunteers and interns from both the Juridische Hogeschool and Tilburg University. With a growing client base and a broad network of legal and strategic partners, we are the place where legal talent and innovative entrepreneurs meet. We don’t just build cases; we build the careers of our people and the future of the region.
